St. John's

Location, as the old saying goes, is everything, and so it is with Newfoundland and Labrador. Canada's easternmost province was the first place in the New World to welcome Europeans - the Vikings who came this way 1000 years ago and left behind the remnants of s sod hut village that is now a celebrated UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is archaeology sites dating back older than the pyramids. Gros Morne National Park, with mountains 20 times older than The Rockies, sand dunes, moose, fjords and cultural events like the theatre, writers and music festivals, is our second UNESCO Site. This province is the best place on the east coast to see whales and icebergs - often at the same time, and look up...a blizzard of seabirds swirls overhead. And we are known for having a good time. St. John's, the capital and main port,is also awash in music, lots of very fine restaurants with fare from around the bay and tastes from around the world. Hiking, sea kayaking, meeting our folk and exploring thousands of miles of coastline and its villages - which we call outports - are all awaiting your visit!
